Who can forget “that” iconic line Bituing Walang Ningning Line in 1985?
La Primera Contravida Cherie Gil’s character (Lavinia Arguelles) might have thrown the iconic line “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” to Megastar Sharon Cuneta (Dorina Pineda), but in real life, the two are actually genuine friends and Sharon was even one of the few people who stayed with Cherie up to her last moments on earth.

On Instagram, Sharon posted a lengthy open letter for Cherie, sharing how she flew to New York to see the latter while still hopeing for a miracle and how devastated she became after finding out that she just lost her closest friend.
“I flew to New York with a heavy heart, still forcing it to hang on to that sliver of hope of God performing a miracle and allowing you to pull through this. I am eternally grateful to Him for giving us the few hours we spent together, the love and words yet again exchanged in person, the knowledge that the friendship forged when we were very young was stronger and would only keep getting so,” she wrote. “You told me about your tree to heaven outside of your apartment window which I didn’t get to see. We said ‘I love you’ and I said I’d see you again today and you raised both arms and gave me the thumbs up with both hands.”

But seeing her best friend alive again is not possible anymore. Barely eleven hours after Sharon left, she got a call about Cherie’s passing.
“I leave New York now with a much heavier heart than ever before because now I am leaving you with the knowledge that I will never see you again,” she expressed. “I will never get to feed you ice chips again. Or share most everything else with you…I thank God I was with your dad, mom, R, and all your kids to ‘see you off’, but I am not happy.”
For Sharon, Cherie is not just a co-star but her “true screen partner” and will always be one of the people she loved the most.

“My heart is in pieces again and now I dunno how to put it back together anymore because among the many loved ones I have lost these past few years, you were and always will be one of my most loved…What will I do without you now, Love? My true screen partner, a true friend, ninang of Simone. I miss you so terribly and know it will only get worse,” she said.
True enough, she is missing her dearest friend and ‘kumare’ so much she is ‘releasing’ her pent up emotions via photos and videos of them together through her social media accounts.
In another post, she shared: “Third sunset without you in my world.”
“I miss you so, so much…Still cannot imagine the coming days, years without you…Too much of this unexpected, unacceptable, inexplicable stabbing pain in my heart…Love you forever and ever and ever and ever…”
Indeed, “When someone you love becomes a memory that memory becomes a Treasure.”
