From Shiela to Lorben: 'Letting go' letter found inside a bottle 18 years later

How do you say goodbye to a person who does not love you anymore? Do you tell the person face-to-face, not minding the tears falling down your cheeks? Do you write them a letter, lock yourself inside your room, and cry in silence as you bear the pain? Or do you just pen one to release all the emotions without planning to send it to the supposed recipient?

Well, we have different ways of ending a chapter of love — just like Sheila, for instance, who wrote a letter to Lorben, kept it hidden inside a bottle, and buried it in 2004.

Sheila’s story has been making rounds on Facebook after social media user Chrisan Dee AeQuo shared finding the bottle with the letter inside 18 years since it was penned; giving off both a nostalgic and a heartbreaking vibe.

In her letter written on June 29, 2004, Sheila told Lorben how hard it was for her to let him go but she had no other choice. Up to the last part, she expressed how much she loves him who was only 17 at the time.

“Ngayon lang ako naka-feel ng ganito all my life. Cute mo kasi kahit parang kuya na kita dahil you are 17 years old. I love you pa rin. This time, ibabaon ko na sa lupa ang alaala mo. Kahit ilang taon pa ang magdaan, I’m sure ‘di ito mawawala ‘pag ‘di rin nawala ang feelings ko sa’yo. I love you and goodbye,” she wrote on stationery papers that were widely used by teenagers back then, shortly before text messaging and online chatting became highly popular.

Touching many hearts online, GMA-7’s weekly news magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho  reposted the letter and started the search for Sheila and Lorben.

“Para sa nakakakilala kina Sheila at Lorben maaaring mag-message sa #KMJS (Whoever knows Sheila and Lorben can message KMJS),” the page posted.
