Photos of a “neglected dog” left alone at the fourth floor balcony of a condominium unit in Quezon City and had to lay down on his own waste have been breaking many hearts online.

In the Facebook group Animal Rescue Ph, a concerned resident alerted his fellow members and asked the right process of seeking help when there is a seemingly left or neglected animal.

“Good day! I am *****, living at *****, QC. This is a condominium. Seeking help on steps needed to be undertaken for a seemingly abandoned/neglected dog. Raised it to the admin of the whole place but no actions were taken. Hope you can assist us and guide us. Thank you,” he posted last May 17, which he eventually updated the next day and maintained that the issue was finally settled.

“As of yesterday and today, dog is inside the unit with the owners. Provided them with signed written warning coming from condo admin. Closely monitoring the dog po,” he disclosed.

As of writing, no statement regarding the incident has been released by the owner/s.

How to help neglected animals?

While the dog is now safe inside the pet owner’s home, lots of similar incidents are still happening in different parts of the country and many have been asking the same question: how to help a seemingly neglected pet?

According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), just like what we usually do when a person is being attacked, the first thing to do is to “intervene”.

“If you see another human being attacked, the right thing to do is to call their attention and tell the attacker to stop. The same applies to animals. If we don’t do anything or react too late, it could mean death to the poor animal,” it explained.
