Months after hearing the news about well-loved Meteor Garden star Barbie Hsu’s wedding, fans finally got a chance to take a glimpse of her wedding with Korean rapper Koo Jun-yup.
According to The Strait Times, Koo recently returned to South Korea for work and was featured on the variety show You Quiz On The Block, hosted by Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho. Here, the 52-year-old shared his love story with Barbie, 45; saying he thought she was a nice girl when he first met her 20 years ago and hoped to marry only someone like her.
After a year of dating secretly, however, they broke up in 1999. A lot of things happened since then: she became Meteor Garden’s Shan Cai in 2001 and got married after several years; while Koo, one of the members of the legendary K-pop duo CLON, pursued his career in the music industry as a singer, DJ, dancer, songwriter, and music producer.
The two did not see each other again until they reconnected after Barbie’s divorce from Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, 40, in November last year, when Koo tried contacting Barbie using her number from two decades ago after finding out that she got divorced. Fortunately, she was still using it and grabbing the second chance he got, he wasted no time and asked her to marry him.
“My mother met Barbie when we were dating 20 years ago. She said Barbie loved me very much at that time and she was glad to see us together,” Koo shared.
At present, the photos shared by Koo has been making rounds online and the actress’ supporters could not be any happier seeing her blissful and in love anew.
Barbie’s second chance at love
Many years ago, Barbie made headlines after ending up with a powerful businessman, just like how her iconic character Shan Cai did in the hit Taiwanese series Meteor Garden. Their happy-ever-after, however, did not last long as they decided to go on separate ways; divorcing in 2021.
But Barbie’s story did not end there. It’s just a start of a new chapter—or should we say a “continuation of a story” as she married the man she dated 20 years back.

On Instagram, Koo posted a statement revealing that he and Barbie recently tied the knot; roughly four months after she divorced her husband of 10 years.
“We are married. To have such a destiny with a lover from over 20 years ago–this is a love we both want to cherish and continue,” he said, as translated by The Straits Times. “We have lost too much time together so I proposed marriage and Barbie finally agreed. After registering our marriage, we shall live together. I’m marrying late in life and I hope to receive everyone’s love and support.”
For her part, Barbie reposted Koo’s post on her account and captioned it, “Life is uncertain. I cherish the happiness I have in the present. I [am thankful for] everything that has led me step by step to where I am now.”
Barbie and her ex-husband has two children; a daughter who was born in 2014 and a son who was born in 2016.
