Naglabas ng show cause order si Manila Mayor Isko Moreno sa University of the East (UE) matapos tumanggi ang presidente nitong si Dr. Ester Garcia na sumunod sa ipatutupad na health break ng lungsod.

Nitong Huwebes, January 13, pinirmahan ni Mayor Isko ang Executive Order No. 07 na nagdedeklara ng isang linggong health break sa lahat ng antas, pribado at pampublikong paaralan sa Maynila mula January 14 hanggang 21.
Ayon sa online student publication ng UE na RedWire, sinabi ni Dr. Garcia na walang awtoridad ang mga alkalde na suspendihin ang klase sa tertiary level.
“According to the Central Student Council (CSC), President Ester Garcia said that the University has consulted with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) first regarding the issue in order ‘to deliver a single decision for both campuses in the collegiate level,’” ayon sa RedWire.

Paliwanag naman ng alkalde, makatutulong ang pansamantalang paghinto ng physical at online classes para sa mental health ng mga mag-aaral, guro, at magulang.
“Mataas po ang anxiety level ng mga magulang para sa kanilang mga anak, at ganoon din ‘yong anxiety level ng mga guro. Kaya ito ay ang pagtugon sa inyong sitwasyon ng pamahalaang lungsod ng Maynila,” aniya.
“It must be emphasized that such week-long health break will afford the students and faculty members the time to physically and mentally recharge, recuperate, or recover for those currently infected by COVID-19,” saad naman sa order.

Inatasan nila ang pamunuan ng UE na magpaliwanag sa loob ng tatlong araw kung bakit hindi sila dapat bigyan ng cease and desist order.
“Failure on your part to answer in writing this Show Cause Order within the said period shall be considered as waiver on your part to be heard and your account shall be dealt with accordingly by the City Government of Manila, through the Bureau of Permits,” dagdag pa nila.
