Nagpasya si Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta na i-drop ang kanyang senatorial bid para sa May 9, 2022 polls.
Sa isang press statement, sinabi ni Rodante na nagpasya siyang i-drop ang kanyang senatorial bid kasunod ng kanyang “poor” na rating sa pre-election surveys.
“The fighter in me should also be brave enough to read the writings on the wall. Let’s call a spade a spade,” aniya.
Inihayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte, sa one-on-one interview kamakailan kay Rodante, na isa siya sa mga nag-lobby sa mambabatas na tumakbong senador.
Sa Chatroom ng Pangulo na ipinalabas sa state-run PTV-4 noong Abril 9, pinuri ni Rodrigo si Rodante sa pagiging isang “principled man, very honest and a [man] with integrity.”
Pinuri rin ni ng presidente si Rodante sa pagiging pinaka-vocal na mambabatas na tumututol sa franchise renewal bid ng local media giant na ABS-CBN Corp.
Nagpasalamat naman si Rodante sa pangulo para sa “positive and generous endorsement” ng kanyang kandidatura sa pagka-senador.
Nagpahayag din siya ng pasasalamat sa Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), People’s Reform Party, at UniTeam sa pagsama sa kanya sa kani-kanilang senatorial slates.
“I will be indebted forever to several people who chipped in their resources, time and tons of hardwork into my memorable campaign. I thank the hundreds of parallel support groups and thousand of volunteers who believed in my advocacies and the measures that must be pursued for the common good. I just hope that they will all be so kind and accommodating enough to understand.”
Sa kabila ng kanyang pag-atras, nangako si Rodante na patuloy na susuportahan ang UniTeam tandem nina dating senador Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at Davao City Mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte.
