Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said he is planning to declare Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Director persona non grata after the unorganized distribution of educational assistance.
“I am planning to declare the DSWD Regional Director persona non grata in Iloilo City for not coordinating with the LGU in organizing this terribly planned event,” he said.
Mayor Treñas earlier expressed concern over the overcrowding at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

“I am very worried about the situation at the Iloilo sports complex. It is now filled to the full capacity and there are still students outside in the streets. No coordination was ever made and this was not well thought of or even well planned,” the mayor said.
He also threatened to file criminal and administrative charges if students were harmed during the distribution.
“If there will be students who will be harmed I will be filing criminal and Administrative cases on all responsible for this poor planning and execution.”

Meanwhile, DSWD Sec. Erwin Tulfo has apologized to those who were not accommodated on the first day of the distribution of educational aid.

“WE ARE VERY SORRY… Sa mga galit po sa amin ngayon dahil hindi po namin natulungan today…ang amin pong taos pusong paumanhin,” he said.
He also promised that they will be more organized in the coming weeks by asking the local government’s help.

“WE WILL DO BETTER NEXT SATURDAY AT SA DARATING NA LIMANG SABADO. Ang amin pong nakikitang solusyon… ILALAPIT na po namin sa inyo ang educational assistance sa tulong po ng mga taga-city hall at munisipyo na malapit sa inyong tirahan,” he explained.
Mayor Treñas, meanwhile, suggested that DSWD course the financial assistance through schools to make it more convenient.
