Even though she has no background in baking, this engineering graduate proved that she can be successful in her new business which was a far cry from her course.
After changing careers, Danica Lynne Casta, 24 years old, now has an online cake business called ‘Amberlyns Cake’ that earns a six-digit income every month.
“I graduated from MAPUA University, Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering & Management and I’m now a full time baker. I’m earning six digits a month,” Danica said in a feature video shared by ‘Philippine Star.’
Due to the financial problems faced by her family in the middle of the pandemic, Danica was forced to put aside her profession as an engineer and look for a temporary online job.
“Lockdown tapos kaka-graduate ko. Hindi ko alam kung pa’no ako mag-i-start. ‘Yung naipon ko do’n sa last kong salary, pinangbili ko siya ng oven na maliit. Ginawan ko ng cake ‘yung pamangkin ko and then do’n na nag-start,” she shared.
Even though she is a beginner, her cake business quickly became popular due to her affordable bento cakes.
With her dedication to learning and improving her craft, her struggles eventually paid off.
From basic designs, Danica can now make different styles of cakes.
From just one order, now she receives more than 1,000 orders per month. She also has eight employees helping to run her business.
She further said that media features and free endorsements from artists who order cakes from her are a big help.
Despite the success of her cake business, however, she still dreams of continuing her interrupted dream as an engineering graduate.
“Hopefully, ‘pag talagang super stable na ‘yung business ko, gusto ko rin talagang maging engineer someday. Currently now, nagma-masters din ako, sa MAPUA din.”
Danica also dreams of having a physical store and branches all over Metro Manila.
“For all na gustong mag-pursue ng dreams nila na malayo sa course nila, kung passion mo talaga ‘yung ginagawa mo, kung gusto mo talaga, push mo lang ‘yon. Mas prefer ko talaga passion, kung hindi mo love ‘yung ginagawa mo, ilulugmok mo lang ‘yung sarili mo do’n sa work mo na ‘di ka naman masaya.”
