Kasunod ng pagsasailalim ng Metro Manila sa mas mahigpit na Alert Level 3 dahil sa muling pagtaas ng bilang ng mga bagong kaso ng covid ay pansamantalang itinigil ang face-to-face o in-person classes sa rehiyon.
Inanunsiyo ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) na ang mga alkalde ng Metro Manila ay nag-kaisa sa desisyong isuspinde ang face-to-face classes upang mapangalagaan ang kaligtasan at kalusugan ng mga mag-aaral at guro.

Ang desisyon ay kasunod ng pakikipagpulong ng mga Metro Manila mayors sa Department of Education (DepEd).
“Following the meeting between the Department of Education and Metro Manila mayors, face-to-face classes in schools holding such in Metro Manila are suspended starting tomorrow, January 3,” saad sa public advisory na inilabas ng MMDA noong Linggo, January 2.
Ang suspensyon ay kinumpirma rin ng DepEd.
“Consistent with the recent memorandum of the IATF for the Alert Level 3 protocols and considering the notable increase of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR), DepEd, in consultation with DOH, confirms that face to face classes for pilot schools in NCR are suspended until the alert level reverts to Level 2,” pahayag ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon.
Ayon pa sa Kagawaran, magpapatuloy naman ang face-to-face classes sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng Alert level 1 at 2 habang isinasapinal pa nito ang report ukol sa pilot face-to-face classes.

Kasabay ng suspensyon ng mga klase ay kapwa nanawagan ang Metro Manila mayors at ang DepEd sa mga magulang na tiyaking mananatili sa bahay ang mga bata sa gitna ng banta ng covid infections.
“Both the local chief executives of Metro Manila and DepEd officials appeal to the parents to make sure children stay at home for their safety amid the threat of rising infections,” ayon sa post ng MMDA sa Twitter.
Ang buong Metro Manila ay isinailalim sa istriktong Alert Level 3 simula January 3 hanggang January 15, 2022.
