Many years ago, popular Meteor Garden star Barbie Hsu made headlines after ending up with a powerful businessman, just like how her iconic character Shan Cai did in the hit Taiwanese series. Their happy-ever-after, however, did not last long as they decided to go on separate ways; divorcing in 2021.
But Barbie’s story did not end there. It’s just a start of a new chapter—or should we say a “continuation of a story” as she just married the man he dated 20 years back; none other than Korean rapper Koo Jun-yup.
On Instagram, Jun-yup posted a statement; revealing that he and Barbie recently tied the knot, roughly four months after she divorced her husband of 10 years, Wang Xiaofei.
“We are married. To have such a destiny with a lover from over 20 years ago–this is a love we both want to cherish and continue,” he said, as translated by The Straits Times.
Jun-yup recalled how he tried contacting Barbie using her number from two decades ago after finding out that she got divorced. Fortunately, she is still using it and that’s how they reconnected with each other. And grabbing the second chance he got, he wasted no time and asked her to marry him.
“We have lost too much time together so I proposed marriage and Barbie finally agreed. After registering our marriage, we shall live together. I’m marrying late in life and I hope to receive everyone’s love and support,” he continued with his statement.
For her part, Barbie reposted Jun-yup’s post on her account; captioning, “Life is uncertain. I cherish the happiness I have in the present. I [am thankful for] everything that has led me step by step to where I am now.”
Barbie and her ex-husband had two children; a daughter who was born in 2014 and a son who was born in 2016.
