“May God grant us wisdom as we vote for our nation’s future…”
A day before the Halalan 2022 on May 9, Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo shared her message to her Instagram followers with regards to the national election.
Apparently, it’s the first time that the actress-singer expressed anything related to the election.
She shared a photo of a quote by Dwight D Eisenhower which read “We the people, elect leaders not to rule but to serve”.
“May God grant us wisdom as we vote for our nation’s future,” she continued on her IG post. “Sharing this meaningful and insightful preaching with all of you. Link on my bio.”
“God bless us all! God bless the Philippines!” she concludes.
However, her simple reminder and prayer for the nation post received mixed reactions and she trended on Twitter.
While many liked her message, there were those who expressed their thoughts on Sara not endorsing any candidate especially on the top two positions – the presidential and vice presidential.
After ‘rumors’ circulated about who the couple will endorse, their talent management gave their statement on the matter.
“Contrary to the rumors circulating, our artists, Sarah Geronimo-Guidicelli and Matteo Guidicelli, are not endorsing any political candidate for the upcoming elections,” so goes their posted statement on their FB page Viva Artists Agency.
Some expressed frustration over Sarah, as well as her huband Matteo, for not endorsing anyone which some believe would have made an impact like other big names who took their stand.
“We the people, admire artists who speak up and stand up for the country. Sadly, you’re not one of them.”
“Sarah G, matagal na kitang iniidolo, isa ka sa mga artists na hinahantay ko na tumindig for VP Leni pero… Hindi ko alam kung para kanino ang boto mo, pero sana hindi dahil naimpluwensyahan ka ng tao na malapit sayo. Ingat lagi Popstar. Vote the person who can really lead us for a better country.”
“Ginagamit lang naman ni Sarah G. ang platapormang meron siya pag promotion na ng movies, concerts & endorsements. Pagdating sa kapakanan ng bansa, tikom ang kanyang bibig. Mukhang pera!”
However, many were quick to defend Sarah and others even remind critics to give the actress-singer the kind of respect she deserves.
“Never naman nainvolved si SG sa politics and rare siya mag-endorse ng politician nung kabataan niya pa un.”
“How dare you say that! Grabe naman po kayo! Please respect SG’s decision not to endorse anybody. Hindi lang din naman siya ang nanahimik ‘di ba? Hindi po si SG ang makakapagpanalo sa Pinklawans. Just so you know!”
“Respect her decisions po kung gusto niya na lang manahimik about politics.”
