Dinepensahan ni Sharon Cuneta nitong Hunyo 15, 2022, ang kanyang anak na si Miel Pangilinan, na lantarang umamin na miyembro ito ng LGBTQ+ community.
Ayon kay Sharon, alam niyang makatatawag-pansin ng marami ang pag-amin ng anak at marami ang magiging negatibo, ngunit gayunpaman, ipinagtanggol niya si Miel.
“I know that my Miel’s coming out will draw lots of attention. Lots of people who are quick to judge instead of pausing to think for a moment that my daughter, like so many members of the LGBTQ+ Community, did not choose to be q***r. She just is. I believe God doesn’t make mistakes. So many of the most sincere and most decent people I know are also LGBTQ+ and I love them for all that they are.”
Idinagdag ng Megastar na maaaring siya ay isang ina na may traditional values ngunit hindi rin ito nangangahulugan na ang kanyang isip ay masyadong maliit para tanggapin ang mga tao kung ano sila.
“Like I said, all my children are PERFECT. I may be a Mom with traditional values, but that doesn’t mean that my mind is too tiny to accept people for what they are – what more my own child? What matters in a person is their goodness. Sincerity, pureness of heart. Faith in God.”
Dagdag pa ni Sharon palagi niyang susuportahan si Miel at pinayuhan pa niya ito na huwag isipin ang mga negatibong komento dahil hindi ito mahalaga.
“I am proud of my girl and always will be. Needless to say, she will always have my support and love. No big deal. I love you, my Yellie. With all of my heart, and more than life itself. Be strong! It’s your life, no one else’s. Don’t give any negative commenters any attention. They don’t matter. We do. And we’ve got your back. Forever and ever.”
