Matindi nga ba ang pagsubok sa usaping ‘asukal’? Pamahal na kasi nang pamahal!
Kaugnay dito, hinihimok ni Senador Risa Hontiveros si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. noong Huwebes na magtalaga ng isang Kalihim ng Agrikultura upang maiwasan ang nagbabadyang krisis sa suplay ng asukal.
Kasalukuyang nagsisilbing kalihim ng DA ang Pangulo.
“This fiasco with the SRA (Sugar Regulatory Administration) is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the chaotic organization and operation of the DA,” ani Hontiveros sa isang pahayag.

“The president should reconsider his position and appoint a competent person who would take charge of the DA, end all controversies in the department, and focus on helping farmers and ensuring adequate food supply in the country,” dagdag pa niya.
Para kay Hontiveros, hindi maaaring maging “part-time job” ang pagiging isang agriculture chief dahil ang publiko ang magdaranas ng krisis sa pagkain.
“It is clear by now that having the president also perform the tasks of a DA Secretary only causes confusion and dysfunctionality in the bureaucracy,” aniya.
“Hindi pwedeng part-time job ang pagtutok sa krisis na ito. Kailangan natin ng magaling at maayos na Secretary sa DA na full-time na tutulong sa mga magsasaka at konsumer,” pagpapatuloy ng senadora.
Kamakailan, ilang opisyal ng SRA at DA, kabilang si DA Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastion, ang nagbitiw sa kanilang mga posisyon matapos ang pagpapalabas ng Sugar Order 4, na nagtatakda ng pag-aangkat ng 300,000 metric tons ng asukal nang walang pag-apruba ni Marcos.
Sinabi ni Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles na tinanggihan ni Marcos ang panukalang mag-import ng 300,000 toneladang asukal. Sinabi niya na ilegal ang importation order.

Sa kabilang banda, malugod na tinanggap ni Senador JV Ejercito ang planong muling organisahin ang SRA, na inulit ang kanyang suporta kay Marcos bilang DA chief.
“That’s a welcome development. The President himself taking on the Department of Agriculture is already very welcome—that he, himself, will be hands-on in tackling all the problems of the agri sector particularly in this case, the sugar industry,” sinabi ni Ejercito sa isang panayam ng ANC.
