Former, current ABS-CBN News anchors reunite on Kapamilya News Chief Ging Reyes' 60th birthday

“Minsan lang ito mangyari!” Indeed, it is a very rare occasion when former and current broadcasters/reporters of ABS-CBN get to gather for a non-work related social event.

On the 60th birthday of Ging Reyes, the Kapamilya news chief for many decades, a number of former and current news anchors, journalists, and reporters of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs came to join her in the celebration of her milestone.

On social media posts of veteran broadcasters in the industry we got to see who attended the birthday party of Reyes, who, by the way, is on the way to retirement from her position in the Kapamilya Network.

“As we celebrate the 60th wonderful years of Ging Reyes we get to reunite with the old ABSCBN newsroom. Reminiscing with so many faces we haven’t seen in soo many years. Great to see you all guys!” so goes the post of Carmelita Twinkle Valdez on Facebook.

One of those who also posted snaps taken from the party is former ABS-CBN news anchor Korina Sanchez-Roxas.

She shared on Instagram, “Minsan lang ito mangyareeee! Sama-sama all in this sortat grand reunion of the ABSCBN Ch 2 News and Current Affairs peeps (graduates and those still in this school of hard knocks). And it’s all for the 60th birthday (yes she actually announces her age) of News Boss Ging Reyes yahoooo!”

Among the big names she mentioned who attended the rare get-together are Kabayan Noli de Castro, Ted Failon, Ces Drilon, Karen Davila, Alvin Elchico, Doris Bigornia, Atom Araullo, Kata Inocencio, Tina Monzon Palma, Becky Cabral, Charie Villa, Karmina Constantino, Zen Hernandez, Jeff Canoy, Mon Ilagan, and many more who she described as “on and off-camera heroes of those days of war and peace on the airwaves.”

“It took 30 years and more to gather and hone these professionals. Hoping it happens again and again. It should,”  Korina added.

A current news anchor of ABS-CBN, Karen Davila, whom Korina interviewed recently on Net25, responded to Korina’s post.

“Korina!!!!!! What a night! Nostalgic!” she commented on the post.

Likewise, Karen shared her own tribute post for Madam Reyes.

“When the last man standing is a WOMAN… an emotional 60th birthday to an institution in ABS-CBN News & the television industry… M’ @gingreyes aka RER  (emoji),” she posted; also on Instagram.

“From the reopening of ABS-CBN in 1986 to the painful non-renewal of our franchise in 2020, Ma’am Ging has stayed through it all. She has mentored hundreds of news people including myself & has stood by her people through the darkest of times.”

“RER was my first EP when I moved to ABSCBN in 2000 and boy, was I scared of her  🙂   and yet through the years, underneath all the tough talk she is famous for, lies a heart of compassion & kindness for her team. Thank you Ma’am Ging for everything.”

“So much nostalgia seeing new & old faces! Once a kapamilya, always a kapamilya 🇵🇭,” Karen concludes her post.

Meanwhile, on her Facebook page, News Chief Reyes received an outpour of love and gratitude for being “the great critic, the ever generous (lagi kami may pasalubong), one great leader and the mother of the dragons.”
